OK, first things first. If the words Daily Bitch offends you, I apologize. I can change it to Daily Gripe or whatever. This is why I have the adult content warning before you sign in. I will not be posting crazy adult stuff (not too often any way) but there will be adult language used often here.
I also may add more than one "bitch" at a time depending on how I feel.
Today my wife received a message from a friend about her kid and her soccer game which really got me going. Maybe I am old school but here goes some bitching on kids or children and sports. Basically her friend bitched that EVERY kid received a trophy or ribbon or whatever after the game. OK, I get it, and I know all the research on how "crushing' the confidence can be to the losing kids. I say BULLSHIT! When I was growing up, only the top 3 winners got rewarded and finishing 2nd or 3rd still sucked to us! It made us "losers" try harder the next game! To this day I am not "crushed" when I lose. I just practice harder and go back and destroy that last competitor or at least try harder!
I am a Father of a soon to be a 5 year old and she HATES to lose at ANYTHING! It drives ME crazy and I have tried hundreds of times to explain Sportsmanship to her and that she can't win every time, but she just refuses to go along with it. OK, I like that she's a competitor but it has to be understood that you may lose from time to time and she should shake the hand/hands of her competition and say "Good game". I think giving all the kids a reward in my opinion just lets the kids know that even if they don't try hard, they will be rewarded anyway!
When I was a young boy I used to be on a Roller Skating Speed Team. I used to compete with kids from the entire State of Florida. I hate to admit it, but I NEVER finished better than 4th place. I used to get a lousy ribbon for 4th place and the top 3 kids got trophies. It used to piss me off so much that I threw the ribbons away before I even left that Rink parking lot!
The moral here is, even though I never could get that elusive trophy....I practiced my ass off every extra minute I had and it made me the best skater I could be. It took a while, but I came to terms that there were other kids out there that were just faster than me. It was in my opinion a great lesson learned that stuck with me all my life.
So let me know what you think. Agree? Disagree?
